Meet the Artist Colette Kolker
|
Note from Colette
Hello, thanks for visiting my web site. My interest in photography started when my parents gave me my
Kodak 110 camera in the 7th grade. The majority of my formal photography training was during my Junior
and Senior year at Naperville North High School, Naperville, IL; loved working in the dark room. Chose to
re-emerge myself back into the world of art to fill in a void in my life. Shortly after, I flew to Colorado in 2008
to attend a class taught by George Lepp, who also provided a brief portfolio review of a few of my pieces.
George strongly suggested I should keep moving forward with my photography aspirations. Additionally,
my work was reviewed by Larry Padgett and Diane Specht whose guidance improved my photography to a
beginning competitive level allowing me to receive my Honorable Mention this year, 2009, from the PX3
competition in Paris. Plan to keep moving forward with improving my skills and photographic techniques
which will hopefully allow me to be a greater competitor world wide.
My love for art and photography has always been a major part of who I am. Even with my professional career
as a scientist, in various aspects of biologic and medical research, I always felt I was missing something in my
life. A dear friend once wrote to me, "There isn't one future that we need to stay on track for. Rather, we
make choices, and our lives unfold. This isn't being fatalistic. Instead I view it as the richness of being alive,
that feeds our curiosity and makes what is ahead exciting." (George T. Reizner, M.D) Taking his words to
heart I have found my endeavor into photography to be very enriching.
Professionally I was trained as a Dietitian, holding an A.S. from the College of DuPage and B.S. from the
University of Wisconsin-Stout. Using my varied educational background I became a published
Biopharmaceutical Research Chemist working with various stages of drug research. Then branched out my
career as a Dermatopathology Histology Technician, a published Lab Manager for Heart Failure Clinical
Research and currently am involved in human subjects protection review for medical research.
My goal is to share the beauty hidden in simple walks that is missed by many through the use of my eyes or
my mind's eye. Please enjoy looking through my works that range from classical to the abstract, primarily
nature. You will find photos from the states of Wisconsin, Washington, and Colorado. All photos are
copyright protected. You will receive all orders signed and numbered. All photographs are printed with
Giclee archival ink on high quality paper. You will notice that different photos will be printed on different
types of paper. This difference is deliberate so as to provide the best artist interpretation for each photo. I
believe quality ink and paper extend the vision of my photography.
Please come back and visit my site to view new works that will be posted in the future. Can't help myself, just
love taking pictures.
